RX-301 Prescribed Fire Implementation Pre-Course Work (2007)

Welcome to the RX-301 Prescribed Fire Implementation pre-course work.

In this pre-course work students will familiarize themselves with various aspects of the Burn Boss position and its relation to the use of prescribed fire as a management tool.

Objectives
Students will:

1. Review and be prepared to discuss interagency policy, agency specific policy and unit planning documents that permit the use of prescribed fire as a management tool.

2. Demonstrate the ability to interpret and validate BEHAVE outputs as they apply to burn plan objectives and prescription.

3. Demonstrate knowledge of ignition, holding, and monitoring skills necessary to implement a prescribed fire.

4. Identify all required burn plan elements per national policy.

1. Read and be ready to discuss the “Guide to Successful Prescribed Burn” by Bill Ott.

2. Download and answer all questions included in the RX-301 pre-course work and bring it to class or submit it as directed by your instructor or course coordinator. Refer to the reference material links below for necessary information needed to complete the pre-course work.
