Pre-Course Work (2010)

Introduction
Welcome to S-360, Finance/Administration Unit Leader Pre Course Work

In this pre-course work, you will obtain basic knowledge that is needed to successfully complete the course. You do not have to submit answers in advance of the course however be prepared to discuss the material and apply what you learned during the course.

This pre-course work will take approximately 2-4 hours depending upon experience.


Objectives

Students will obtain knowledge about the organizational structure of the Finance/Administration Section.

Students will obtain knowledge about wildland fire leadership.

Students will obtain knowledge on incident business practices that are relevant to Finance/Administration Unit leaders.

Students will obtain knowledge on Finance/Administration Unit Leader responsibilities.

Students will obtain knowledge about information that is available on the Incident Business Practices Working Team website.



Assignment

Step 1: REVIEW the finance/administration organizational chart (see Reference Materials section below). Be prepared to discuss the organizational chart and the position responsibilities.

Step 2: VISIT the Wildland Fire Leadership web site (www.fireleadership.gov) and answer these questions. Be prepared to discuss your answers during an exercise in the course.

a. List the sections of the Web site that you found to be most helpful.

b. Read the section “Set the Example – Leaders We Would Like to Meet.” Which one of these leaders do you want to emulate and why 


Step 3: REFERENCE the Interagency Incident Business Management Handbook:

a. Review chapters: Chapters 10, 20, 60, 70, 80 and Appendix Tool Kit.

b. Review the Appendix Tool Kit.

c. Read all the references to Finance/Administration Unit Leader responsibilities.

c. Read the following definitions in the Chapter 0:  Accounting Code; Buying Team; Casual; Contracting Officer; Contracting Officer’s Representative; Contractor; First Aid Cases; Geographic Area; Incident Agency; Incident Business Advisor; Procurement Officer; Timekeeping; and Time Recording. 

Step 4: REVIEW the Incident Business Committe Website (www.nwcg.gov/branches/committees.htm)and the Geographic Area Coordination Center Web site (Incident Business links) (gacc.nifc.gov).  Be prepared to discuss the information that is available on the sites.
