This website focuses on the availability of training for the wildland fire community. Procedures differ by agency and state. NWCG member agencies are the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Fish and Wildlife Service, National Association of State Foresters, and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
If you are part of a local governmental agency please contact your State Forestry office to request their "sponsorship" for NWCG training.
If you are not already affiliated with a unit of government or NWCG member agency you are not eligible to participate in NWCG training.

If you qualify for training there are a number of ways to get into a course.
100-200 level courses are typically administered by a local unit (Forest, District, Park, Refuge, etc.) and rarely require tuition. If you are interested in this level of course you need to call local fire offices to see if/when training is scheduled.
300-400 level courses are often administered at the regional or geographic level and in many cases, tuition is charged. Most 300-400 level courses are listed at: www.nationalfiretraining.net/nw.
500-600 level courses are considered National courses and are generally administered by the National Advanced Fire & Resource Institute (NAFRI). No tuition is charged for National courses administered by NAFRI and schedules are available on the NAFRI site at: www.nafri.gov.
Nomination Form: Many local (100-200) level courses may not require that a nomination form be completed. Completion of a nomination form for 300-600 level courses is essential. An “NWCG Interagency Training Nomination and Agreement to Collect Funds” can be found at the following site: www.nationalfiretraining.net/nw.
Nomination Process: Once a course nomination form has been completed and approved by the individual’s supervisor, it may be sent to a local course (100-200) administrator (when required) or from the supervisor or local training representative (300-600) and on through a review and prioritization process prior to potential placement of a nominee within the course. Several "I-courses" (Incident Command System) that are non-fire specific can be taken through the US Fire Administration. Information on those courses can be found at the following site: www.training.fema.gov.
