The Position Task Book

The tasks which FBANs and LTANs must be able to perform before certification are included in the Position Task Book for Fire Behavior Analyst (FBAN) and Long Term Fire Analyst (LTAN). You should make yourself familiar with this book as you work your way through S-590; the tasks within it relate directly to the knowledge and skills taught in this course.

The LTAN and FBAN positions have evolved to have very few differences in the roles and functions they perform.  They routinely complement and assist each other on fire assignments, building on the skills each position brings to the table. This convergence of roles is reflected in the task book, where you will find all but six of the tasks are common to both positions.

The next page provides a video overview of typical FBAN and LTAN roles. Keep in mind that, while differences are highlighted, both are fire analysts at the end of the day.
